Without doubt the most popular use of Scottish Stained Glass is for residential entryways. Over the past 20 years over 10,000 elegant entryways have been created by Scottish and 2 or 3 more are created every day.
Entryways allow us to create a wonderful first impression for anyone entering the home. They can be designed with clear cut glass beveled pieces which will allow light to come into the home but then use clear textured glass around the bevels to give privacy and prevent unwanted viewing from the outside.
Martin Faith, owner of Scottish Stained Glass explains, “Many homes are built with glass panels on either side of the door. This allows some nice natural light into the home and also means that anyone arriving on your doorstep can see all the way into your home, which makes many people uncomfortable. Traditionally these panels have been covered with net curtains or blinds however these just don’t look good on a slim entryway window. The perfect answer is to use leaded glass.”
The use of leaded glass on an entryway is also great for the resale of any home. When prospective buyers arrive for the first time to be greeted by such an elegant creation they immediately get the impression of a home with a custom feel to it. This sets the home apart from others the buyer may be viewing that day. For this reason many custom builders will order stained glass entryways for the homes they are building and many realtors contact us during the selling process. They know that if they add stained glass to their homes, they will sell faster.
When designing stained or leaded glass entryways you always have to look at both the external appearance of the home and ensure that the design fits with that architecture as well as the interior design. It’s a challenge which Scottish Stained Glass has taken on thousands of times and, as you can see in our stained glass gallery, with stunning results every time.
